more writing on the wall...
You may remember a short blog entry from last March about the occassionally interesting vandalism in the bathroom stall near my office. I get a small sense of pleasure whenever I need to use the WC and I find myself gazing upon some new words of wisdom. This week was a busy one in the world of toilet stall publishing. Sometime last week 2 Canadian flags appeared, crudely doodled, one on the sheet metal partition to my right, the other on the painted brick to my other right.
"Interesting," I thought to myself, "they both got the right amount of points on the maple leaf..."
Then early this week, as I pondered the dwindling roll of TP...strange for a Monday morning, I noticed the seemingly rhetorical question scribbled beside the flag doodle on my right, "WHAT IS IT ABOUT TAKING A S&!T THAT INSPIRES PATRIOTIC FANATACISM?" (I have left out the actual obscenity, for your protection of course.)
Tuesday morning brought the answer to that question..."think about it...what else comes to mind when you think about our government?" the 'author' went on to pen something about being full of something, and something about money and a toilet and flushing...
Wednesday brought an Anarchy symbol smeared over the Canadian flag accompanied by "PATRIOTISM IS VIOLENCE" and off to the side, "NO GOVERNMENT NO BORDERS NO WAR" (for some reason the unknown artist had also left "NO POLICE" and then rubbed those 2 words out)
On Thursday I found that a slightly calmer journalist added this rebuttal, "This is not a solution" (referring to the Anarchy symbol and the "No Government" message) and "No, human nature promotes violence" (in reference to the all caps PATRIOTISM IS VIOLENCE).
Friday afternoon revealed the intended diligence of the night janitor; the old skool blog had been smeared and was slightly faded, although not enough to provide evidence of a good effort. As I sat there, considering my long weekend plans, I couldn't help but assume that the fellow who hastily mispelled 'fanaticism' in all caps last Tuesday likely didn't wash his hands on the way out either.
